PMS Anger

Question: PMS is affecting my relationship with my boyfriend. I don't think that I react the way I should to certain situations. Sometimes I just feel inside like I want to rip his head off: I know that sounds terrible, but it is just how I feel sometimes. And it's over the littlest thing. It's like, "Wow, why did I feel that way for no reason?" There's no reason for it, except I'm premenstrual. That's not fair to me or to anybody else that I come in contact with, and I'd like it to stop.

Answer: Caitlin, I couldn't help but notice that you said "I don't react the way I should." I certainly understand that during PMS you don't like the way you feel or the way you behave sometimes, and I can tell you'd like to do something about it. But I also recommend you consider trying to not be too hard on yourself: PMS is a real condition that is related to your hormonal balance and to brain activity regulators called neurotransmitters. So while it may seem as if these symptoms happen for no reason, there is a real, chemical cause. Before your period, your hormones and brain chemistry are out of balance, and that results in PMS. I think our site can help you understand what is happening to cause your symptoms, and the natural approach you can take to relieve your PMS symptoms.
