Ask The Doctor
Question: My PMS is not for just one day or two days like some of my friends. It lasts anywhere from five to seven days, and for every one of those days, I have pain, headaches, and mood swings. Sometimes I even get nauseated. I even start sweating so that I have to keep fanning myself. I think a lot of it has to do with how bad my pains are. I think the pain is what makes me irritable and moody with the PMS, and then that really affects my quality of life, because I don't want people to reject me because of being irritable and moody. I want to be the same person that I really am—friendly, happy—even during my PMS time.
Answer: Michelle, thanks for writing. I wish more women and doctors could realize exactly what you are saying, which is that chronic pain, like you are having from PMS, affects quality of life. When that pain is present, it can be hard to concentrate, to socialize, and it can be downright exhausting. PMS itself causes irritability, depression, and mood swings. When PMS pain is layered on top of that, it can make emotional symptoms even worse.
The good news is you don't have to treat each of these symptoms individually. One treatment for pain, another for nausea, another for mood would be too complex. We think it's better to address the underlying hormonal imbalance that causes all of these different symptoms. We created our Natural Relief Programs for just that purpose.
