Ask The Doctor
PMDD Social Withdrawal
Question: The night before Thanksgiving I was with my family. I was kind of tired, but it was two or three days before my period, and I completely shut down. I was in a bad mood; I was cranky and irritable with any little thing that was happening and I ended up going to bed. I just completely shut down. I didn't participate in the holiday cooking and all the good stuff, all because of my PMDD symptoms. I have missed out on fun events and things that are going on several times, because sometimes with PMDD I just completely shut down and don't participate. As a result, I'm missing out on a lot. I don't want to go through that again.

Answer: Nadia, you've expressed very well one of the terrible things about PMS and PMDD: it robs you of the opportunity to live your life to the fullest. From missing out on special and fun social occasions, or even attending them but feeling like you'd rather not be there because of feeling awful, to not being able to meet family or work responsibilities as efficiently as you'd like, PMS robs you of precious time, productivity, and enjoyment of life. There's plenty you can do to get natural relief from premenstrual symptoms, starting by reading our articles on PMDD causes and PMDD symptoms and about our natural relief programs.
