Ask The Doctor
Question: I am 40 years old, I've never had PMS before, and now all of the sudden I'm getting PMS symptoms, and I'm worried because I don't want to live the rest of my life with this. I don't like the way I feel right now. The last couple of months have been kind of crazy for me, just because I've never had PMS symptoms before. I just wish it would go away. I really hate it.
Answer: Danielle, unfortunately, one never knows when the miserable symptoms of premenstrual syndrome will arise, and it can happen to a woman later in her reproductive years, after years of a relatively symptom-free menstrual cycle. One sentiment almost all women with PMS share, regardless of when their symptoms begin—they just wish it would go away. But also unfortunately, PMS does not usually go away on its own, because it is the results of a hormonal, and possibly mood chemistry, imbalance, so those need to be balanced and corrected, ideally using natural remedies.
